Endurance or Cross Country
What is the difference between cross country running and endurance running?
Apart from the obvious, endurance running is usually associated with long distance running on a nice flat road or track whereas cross country is still endurance running but over a course that is not so nice and flat. Both require a few different tactics but they definitely both involve strength and fitness.
Consistency
One other thing they both have in common is consistent training. But that is a common need in everything we do if we want to improve or be the best. From mastering a required skill for a sport to improving your strength and fitness, it is a big advantage if you begin and don’t stop.
Many successful athletes have achieved great results in all sports including running by consistently learning and training. They don’t begin a training program a few weeks out from an event. It just doesn’t work that way.
But unfortunately, a lot of young athletes and parents think along those lines. They know a certain event or carnival is approaching so they change their plan to suit, begin learning something else, start training differently, and expect great results.
They don’t achieve the desired results, so they decide it’s not for them and move onto the next goal, activity, or sport.
Until next time and the pattern continues.
Learning to run, improving your skills, increasing your endurance, and consistently training throughout the year will not only help you with cross country running but it will also help you with any sport you play.
If your past results have not turned out how you want them to, then maybe a new plan is needed.
